2025 Resolutions
1- Get a A New Road Bike
The ole girl is starting to get tired. By my count it has easily over 60 000km on it by now.
It’s time, it’s time.
2- Get down to 148lbs and maintain.
Started last year at 162, starting this year at 158. Erg! I’m so close to my optimal weight range but just can never get there. Fundamentally I have bad food habits and one of my favorite hobbies is baking. Brutal! I ate a pie as a snack the other day. Like a whole pie. As a snack.
I have learned from last year that I can’t train and lose weight at the same time. Either I bike for fun and do crap workouts or I just train ( badly ) and over-eat anyway. So at least until I manage to get down to 148, I’ll just bike for fun. I really just feel like a bag of shit right now.
Plan: Track all calories on MyFitnessPal ( except family diners ). Keeps you grounded to at least watch what you eat. Will keep going until the red bar is the same as the blue bar. 35000 calories = 10 pounds. Then we’ll see where we’re at.
3- Finish Salish Sea Island adventure.
I started this in 2024 mainly on a whim instead of doing a huge Alaska gravel adventure. These are all the islands you can access by bridge or ferry without an invitation. Many islands are privately owned or are Indian reserves so even if they have roads they are invite-only. Most of the USA islands are nice and paved but many of the Canadian ones are gravel, so this would be a gravel bike trip for the most part. Thinking it would take about 2 weeks.
3B: Do more camping.
I love camping when I do trips. Didn’t get to do as much last year because there’s a long-ass fire ban season in BC and WA state where camping becomes pointless. The timing of this trip will have to be before this ban so I can enjoy my sweet grilled meats.
4- Get This Damn Game to Alpha/Beta
Started this too long ago. Make or break year. Get this to Alpha and in front of publishers or just quit and do something else.
5- Always be talking to a girl
I take too many breaks from these apps. Fine I will just try to always be talking to one person. The rule is if I don’t hear back after 3 days or either party ends it, I start messaging new people again. No, I don’t know why I keep doing this to myself.
6- Hike in Strathcona (re-do from last year )
This is the hiking paradise of Vancouver Island. Just never been there. Usually more for multi-day serious backpacking hikes which I might not be down for but I’ll at least do ONE hike by summer’s end
It’s a 4 hour drive to get there so it’s just a hassle to plan a full-day hike.
Thinking of this one, King’s Peak, which is… pretty legit at 1800m of climbing. That’s much higher than anything I climbed this year. It also seems well traveled and safe.
I’ll just go and do it alone, whatever. Everyone is a flake now.
7- Take some class
I just have to be out of the apartment more… As with all social things, I really really REALLY don’t want to go and do it but when it’s over, I’m glad I did it.
8- Out of the apartment 6/7 days
It’s probably not good to live in solitary confinement… Bike rides and errands count though. Have to force myself to find SOMETHING to do that isn’t just my apartment. In the summer I’m out 6/7 days just cycling but in the winter there’s days I just don’t open the door.
Ok that’s enough, that’s enough.
